Abstract Obesity is defined as a state of extreme adiposity, which is a risk to health, such as an increased risk of chronic disease, including cancer, that results from a continuous positive energy balance over time. Adequate physical activity, reducing stress and body mass index (BMI), adequate and balanced nutrition and intestinal microbiota are involved in the prevention of environmental factors that play a role in the etiology. The aim of this review is to give information about the mechanism of action of intestinal microbiota on obesity formation. Mechanisms related to intestinal microbiota and obesity; endotoxins consist of tight junction proteins, the activities of short chain fatty acids and the effects of protein-fasting-induced adipose factor (FIAF) in microbiota. In addition, microbiota appears to have an effect on appetite by affecting anorexigenic hormones such as peptide YY (PYY) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Nutrition also has important effects on microbiota. As a result, it is seen that negative changes in microbiota have been added to factors such as unhealthy diet, sedentary life, various diseases (diabetes, depression) that cause obesity [1]
